A New Era for Novices in the North American Conference

July 21, 2022Thursday, July 14, 2022 marked the beginning of a new era in the Redemptorists’ North American Conference. Nine young men from the Units of Canada, the United States and Mexico have begun their novitiate together in the former St. Alphonsus Seminary in Tlalpizahuac, Mexico, just outside of Mexico City.
This is the first joint novitiate since Mexico joined the Conference in 2019, and the first time all Units will be doing a stage of formation together.
Fr. Javier Moran Morin of the Mexican Province is serving as novice director, and Fr. Matthew Allman of the Baltimore Province is his assistant. They are joined on the formation team by Br. Tito López Cartagena of Mexico.
The novices are Marco Antonio Ortega Morales, Edwin Rolando Hernández Ávila, and Abel Ríos Alba of Mexico, Gabriel Yun Zhang, Mark Suezo, and Benedict Nicholas of Canada, Hieu Minh Bui of the Extra Patriam Vice Province, and Nhan Tran Do and Mc Quain Clovis of the Baltimore Province.
It is not simply an international group of novices, but a very intercultural one as well. By birth, two novices are from Vietnam, one is from China, one is from the Philippines, and one is from St. Lucia in the Caribbean. It will be an exciting time as all find their place in the shared Redemptorist mission and charism.
The novitiate conferences will be conducted in English, while prayers and community life will be lived in a mix of English and Spanish.
The novitiate begins with an eight-day retreat led by Fr. Dennis Billy of Baltimore. Please keep the novitiate community in your prayers.
El jueves 14 de julio de 2022 marcó el comienzo de una nueva era en la Conferencia Norteamericana de Redentoristas. Nueve jóvenes de las Unidades de Canadá, Estados Unidos y México han comenzado juntos su noviciado en el antiguo Seminario St. Alphonsus en Tlalpizahuac, México, en las afueras de la Ciudad de México.
Este es el primer noviciado conjunto desde que México se unió a la Conferencia en 2019, y la primera vez que todas las Unidades harán una etapa de formación juntas.
Padre Javier Moran Morin de la Provincia de México se desempeña como director de novicios, y el P. Matthew Allman de la Provincia de Baltimore es su asistente. A ellos se une en el equipo de formación el Hno. Tito López Cartagena de México.

No es simplemente un grupo internacional de novicios, sino también muy intercultural. Por nacimiento, dos novicios son de Vietnam, uno es de China, uno es de Filipinas y uno es de Santa Lucía en el Caribe. Será un momento emocionante en el que todos encontrarán su lugar en la misión y el carisma redentoristas compartidos.
Las conferencias del noviciado se llevarán a cabo en inglés, mientras que las oraciones y la vida comunitaria se vivirán en una mezcla de inglés y español. El noviciado comienza con un retiro de ocho días dirigido por el P. Dennis Billy de Baltimore. Por favor mantenga a la comunidad del noviciado en sus oraciones.
