Pope Francis elevated the territorial Prelature of Borba in Brazil to the grade of Diocese and appointed Bishop Zenildo Luiz Pereira da Silva, C.Ss.R., formerly bishop prelate, as the first bishop of the Diocese of Borba.
Bishop Zenildo was born on June 6, 1968 in Linhares, in the Diocese of Colatina, Espírito Santo. After moving to Cacoal, in the State of Rondônia, he professed his religious vows as a Redemptorist on December 27, 1997.
He studied philosophy and theology at the CENESCH (Centro de Estudos do Comportamento Humano) in Manaus (1994-2000) and was ordained to the priesthood in Cacoal on August 11, 2001.
Bishop Zenildo’s ministerial experience includes serving as a parish priest at Nossa Senhora de Nazaré in Manacapuru in the Diocese of Coari (2001-2008); a parish priest at Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro in Manaus (2008-2011); as Vice Provincial Superior of the Vice Province of Manaus (2011-2014); and as a parish priest at the Cathedral of Santana e São Sebastião in Coari (2014-2016).
He was appointed bishop prelate coadjutor of Borba on February 24, 2016 and was ordained a bishop two months later, on April 2, 2016. He has served as bishop of the Prelature of Borba since September 20, 2017.
